Associate or Full Professor in Technology Management
The Department of Technology Management at the University of
California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a tenured
position in sustainability management at the Associate or Full
Professor level. Applicants should have a research concentration in
areas relevant to sustainability management of medium to large-scale
systems, enterprises, or regions. Relevant disciplines include
industrial and systems engineering, operations research, financial
engineering, computer science and related fields as applied to
problems that have an environmental dimension. Candidates should have
an expertise in analytical methods and the ability to develop a
research program that explores fundamental questions in the area.
Our department emphasizes and has strengths in data sciences,
technology management, and economics of information and technology.
Given the proximity of UCSC to Silicon Valley and its new Silicon
Valley campus, our faculty often have substantive research ties to
Silicon Valley firms.
The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active
research program with evidence of a developed research trajectory;
teach courses that contribute to the Technology and Information
Management Degree Programs; mentor and advise students at the graduate
and undergraduate level individually and in the classroom; contribute
significantly to graduate education; and undertake service obligations
to the department and campus consistent with a ladder-rank faculty
member. Applicants are expected to develop externally funded research
programs. The candidate must be able to work with students, faculty,
and staff from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds. We are
especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the
diversity and excellence of the academic community.
This position will contribute to UCSC's initiative to expand research
and teaching in the Silicon Valley. The successful candidate will have
a presence on the main campus (in Santa Cruz) and at the UCSC Silicon
Valley Center (in Santa Clara). The candidate will be expected to help
build academic programs in Silicon Valley and Santa Cruz.
RANK: Associate or Full Professor
SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. or equivalent in industrial and systems
engineering, operations research, financial engineering, computer
science or other relevant field; demonstrated record of research and
publications; demonstrated record of university teaching experience at
the graduate and undergraduate levels, and a demonstrated record of
extramural research funding,
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Professional experience in industry or close
research contacts with industry or urban/regional managers.
Demonstrated potential or proven ability to build academic programs.
Strong record of service to one's professional community and academic
institution. Demonstrated excellence in innovative research and a
strong record of publications. Demonstrated excellence in university
teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
