CALL FOR PAPERS

PhD Symposium of the 14th International Conference on Web Engineering (ICWE)
July 1-4 2014 Toulouse, France

********************************************************************************

IMPORTANT DATES

Paper submission deadline: March 17, 2014 (23:59 Hawaii Time) EXTENDED DEADLINE!!!
Notification of acceptance: March 31, 2014
Camera-ready versions due: April 7, 2014 (23:59 Hawaii Time)
********************************************************************************

The ICWE 2014 PhD symposium offers a unique opportunity for PhD students to explore and develop their research interests in an interdisciplinary workshop, under the guidance of a panel of senior researchers in the field of Web Engineering. Our aims are to:

Offer a friendly forum for students to discuss their work and receive constructive feedback;
Offer relevant information on issues important to doctoral candidates;
Nurture a community of researchers.
The PhD symposium is designed for students currently registered for a PhD in Web Engineering and related fields, and is open to students at any stage of their PhD studies.Nonetheless, ideal candidates should have worked on their dissertation for at least 6 months; thus, they should have chosen a research focus and possibly also have selected theoretical and methodological approaches and begun to produce results. Selection of participants will be based on the quality of the submission and its relevance to Web engineering field in a broad sense (see the conference topics).
In fact, it is worth to consider that nowadays, Web-based solutions and applications require advanced approaches that go beyond traditional hypertext concepts and utilize, e.g., Collective Intelligence, Crowdsourcing, Socially-Enhanced Services Computing, Mobile Apps, and novel mechanisms such as Gamification. The development process of such solutions also adopts ideas from multidisciplinary fields such as Software Engineering, HCI, Databases, Information Sciences, Design Thinking and Distributed Systems.

Selected contributions will be discussed in a dedicated conference session where students will be able to discuss and share their ideas with the other students and the jury. In addition to that, students will be invited to participate at the poster sessions so that they can also get comments of other participants in the conference.

All Phd Symposium papers will be published in the main conference proceedings that will be published by Springer LNCS.

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS

The contribution should be structured along the following sections:

Length: Papers must not be longer than 4 (four) pages
Format: Submissions should be formatted according to the LNCS
Heading: title, author’s name, affiliation, and a 200 words abstract
What is the setting and history behind this project?
What is the problem to be addressed?
This includes the research questions as well as and it relates to Web Engineering. A case study can be used to illustrate the point.
What are some current approaches to this problem?
Why is this problem worth solving or worth solving better?
What is the research methodology to be used?
What is the agenda ahead?

Authors should submit their contributions via the dedicated ICWE2014DC EasyChair system: https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=icwe2014dc
