Rural Intelligent Public Transportation System Design: Applying the Design
for Re-Engineering of Transportation eCommerce System in Iran
Leila Esmaeili (Amirkabir University of Technology, Tehran, Iran), Seyyed
AliReza Hashemi G. (Amirkabir University of Technology, Tehran, Iran)
In order to improve the level of intelligence, availability, convenience,
information and humanization of rural public transportation systems, they
are more willing to use modern information and communicative technologies.
In addition to management services, intelligent transportation systems can
provide passengers, drivers and other institutions with other services
such as trip planning, tracking and so forth. In this paper the authors
have attempted to present a comprehensive design of rural ITS based on
cloud and grid computing, RFID, GPS, GIS, etc. through e-commerce and
particularly m-commerce in order to improve the rural transportation
management and presentation of user-centric services. Also according to
the design, intercity transportation services to passengers are
re-engineered. The results show proposed design with distribution
infrastructure improves the performance of e-commerce and ISs in
transportation domain. The system designed on this paper regardless of the
possible challenges could efficiently cover the problems of rural
transportation of newly developing countries.

Autonomic Execution of Web Service Composition Using AI Planning Method
Chao-Qun Yuan (Multimedia University, Cyberjaya, Malaysia), Fang-Fang Chua
(Multimedia University, Cyberjaya, Malaysia)
Web Service Composition is one of the technologies in Service Oriented
Architecture which significantly increases the flexibility and reusability
of developing service-oriented system. One of the major problems which
occurs in web service composition is the difficulties of maintaining the
existing running web service composition solutions due to the changes of
business requirements, deployment environment, and other dynamic factors.
In this proposed work, an automated system had been built to autonomously
execute the web service composition. To achieve this objective, the
authors had embedded semantic engine and Prolog in C# program to
automatically and dynamically discover, compose and execute web service
composition, i.e. a web service composition could be self-configured to
automatically recover from execution failure and automatically re-generate
composition solution due to business protocol changes.

Productivity Measurement in Software Engineering: A Study of the Inputs
and the Outputs
Adrián Hernández-López (Department of Computer Science, Universidad Carlos
III de Madrid, Madrid, Spain), Ricardo Colomo-Palacios (Østfold University
College, Østfold, Norway), Pedro Soto-Acosta (Department of Management &
Finance, Universidad de Murcia, Murcia, Spain), Cristina Casado Lumberas
(Department of Education, Universidad Internacional de la Rioja, Madrid,
Spain)
Productivity measurement is constructed by the measure of tree categories
of elements: inputs, outputs and factors. This concept, which started
being used in the manufacturing industry, has been also a research topic
within Software Engineering (SE). In this area, the most used inputs are
time and effort and the most used outputs are source code and
functionality. Despite of their known limitations, many of the most used
productivity measures are still being used due to the information that
they provide for management goals. In order to enable the construction of
new productivity measures for SE practitioners, the existence of other
inputs apart from time and effort, and other outputs, apart from source
code and functionality is analyzed in this paper. Moreover, differences in
usage of the inputs and production of the outputs among some SE job
positions are analyzed and explained.

An Extensive Review of IT Service Design in Seven International ITSM
Processes Frameworks: Part II
Manuel Mora (Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes,
Mexico), Jorge Marx Gomez (Department of Informatics, Oldenburg
University, Oldenburg, Germany), Rory V. O'Connor (School of Computing,
Dublin City University, Dublin, Ireland), Mahesh Raisinghani (School of
Management, Texas Woman's University, Denton, TX, USA), Ovsei Gelman
(National Autonomous University of Mexico, Mexico City, Mexico)
The main international IT Service Management processes frameworks (ITIL
v2, ISO/IEC 20000, COBIT 4.0, CMMI-SVC, MOF 4.0, and ITUP) include the
design of IT services as part of their main best practices. However,
despite having a common purpose and conceptual structure, they are
organized differently. Hence, ITSM academic researchers and practitioners
need to integrate a broad and diverse literature in relation to these
frameworks. In Part I of this research, the authors pursued the goal of a
descriptive-comparative analysis of fundamental concepts and IT service
architecture design models used in the seven ITSM frameworks. In this
paper (Part II) we complete this systemic analysis by using the ISO/IEC
15288 systems engineering standard and focusing on the IT design processes
and practices reported in the aforementioned ITSM frameworks.
Specifically, CMMI-SVC and ITUP are assessed in overall as the strongest
frameworks from an engineering view, MOF 4.0 and ITIL v3 as moderate, and
ISO/IEC 20000, ITIL v2 and COBIT as the weakest. ITSM academicians and in
particular practitioners thus will need to distinguish their utilization
according to the level of required detail of the IT service design
process. This paper aims to advance our comprehension and understanding on
the state of the art regarding what are IT services and how they can be
designed. Thus it is of broad significance to ITSM researchers and
practitioners.

CALL FOR PAPERS
Mission of IJITSA:
The primary objective of International Journal of Information Technologies
and the Systems Approach (IJITSA) is to disseminate and discuss high
quality research results on information systems and related upper and
lower level Systems as well as interactions with software engineering,
systems engineering, complex systems, and philosophy of systems sciences
issues through rigorous theoretical, modeling/simulation, engineering, or
behavioral studies in order to explore, describe, predict, explain,
design, evaluate or intervene on organizational systems. Whereas
information systems are the main objects of study, the systems approach
any variant is the main research method and philosophical stance used.
