About the Conference:

The IsraHCI Research Conference brings together researchers and practitioners interested in the intricacies of the design, evaluation and implementation of interactive systems. At its fourth year, the conference is becoming the premier forum to present, discuss and experience novel interactive systems from a research-oriented perspective.

We invite those interested in HCI – from industry and academia, from design, engineering, computer science, psychology, education and the UX community - to take part in this exciting event and contribute to the growth of the Israeli HCI research community.

The objectives of the Israeli HCI Research Conference are to:

• Create a bridge between academic research in HCI and those developing innovative interactive technologies in the Israeli industry

• Contribute to the growth of Israeli research in human-computer interaction

• Establish an inclusive community of Israeli researchers, allowing students to present work and enter the research area

• Foster interdisciplinary collaborations

The fourth IsraHCI conference will be held on February 18, 2016 at Shenkar College, Ramat Gan. It will include several sessions, each dedicated to highlighting research on different aspects of human-computer interaction. A new session: case studies, will allow the presentation of work from a practitioner perspective.

Contributions

The conference is looking for five types of contributions:

Published research papers that were presented in leading international journals and conferences. Selected published works from the last two years will be presented at the conference, showcasing the established works of Israeli HCI researchers. Authors should submit their already accepted papers. No reviewing process will occur, and papers will be selected according to their suitability to the conference. Only a limited number of papers will be selected as time permits.

Extended abstracts that describe existing research, work-in-progress, case-studies or student works. The abstracts should be written in the CHI extended abstract format with a limit of 6 pages, and will be presented either as posters or as short presentations. Extended abstracts will be peer-reviewed, and will be available on the conference website if the authors approve their publication.

Demos of innovative interaction models, interfaces and artifacts. The demos should be described in a two-page abstract, in Hebrew or English, and will be presented in a special session (see below).

Videos of innovative interaction models, interfaces and future concepts. The videos should be submitted as video files and will be presented as part of a dedicated video session.

[New!] Case Studies stories of HCI practice, based on real-world experiences. Case Studies should describe how a concrete problem addressed, explain how the work was done, describe challenges experienced and how they were addressed, and reflect on the experience (up to 6 pages).

All submissions (except the videos) can be submitted in English or Hebrew, and should be formatted according to the ACM conference proceedings guidelines. Information about the guidelines and templates can be found in the CHI website (Referred to as “Extended Abstracts”).

To submit, please look for the “submission” link in the conference website: http://israhci.org. Most verbal presentations at the conference will be given in Hebrew, but English is also acceptable.

Demo Submission Guidelines

We invite demos of new interactions, interfaces, and research platforms for HCI. Demos will be

presented in a gallery space near the conference lobby, with most traffic expected during a

dedicated demo walk-through break.

Demos should show a working prototype, and not a video representation of the interaction.

Physical aspects of demos are preferred to on-screen demos.

Demos should not be promotional in nature.

You will be provided with a table and electricity, but are responsible for all other equipment and staffing of your demo area.

Video Submission Guidelines

We invite videos of interactions, within the conference topics of interest. Videos should present new interactive experiences, both realized and conceptual. Videos should give a feeling of the interactive experience, being as close as possible to experiencing it firsthand. In addition to the importance of the novelty and aesthetics of interaction, the entertainment value of the video will be judged. The video must be self-explanatory for the audience.

Video content should be self-contained and self-explanatory. There should be no live narration or in-person introduction when videos are presented in the session.

Video content should not be promotional in nature.

Files should be finalized and ready to be played as-is, without revision, at the conference.

Videos should not exceed 3 minutes in length. Titles and credits are recommended to last less than 3 seconds each.

The submitted video files cannot exceed 80MB in size.

The video files can be in .AVI, .MOV or .MP4 file formats. They should play on standard PC and Macintosh computers without requiring third party codecs to be installed. Authors should verify that their submission is viewable using VLC (cross-platform).

Case Study Submission Guidelines

Case Studies are compelling stories of HCI practice, based on real-world experiences. Accepted submissions record the history of and innovation within HCI practice, outside of the scope of traditional research papers. Based on the concrete cases of research and design, HCI practitioners and researchers will learn how HCI principles and methods can be applied in practical HCI work.

Case Studies should describe how the problem was determined, explain how the work was done, describe challenges experienced and how they were addressed, reflect on the experience, and describe why the case study is of importance.

Case studies should be submitted as 4-6 page papers in the Extended Abstract format, and can be supplemented with additional materials. However, the written description should stand alone, enabling a full understanding of the case study.
