The AMCIS 2016 Junior Faculty Consortium

(also known as the “MIS Camp”)

Thursday, August 11th

"Charting a Course for Smooth Sailing in your Academic Career"

The Junior Faculty Consortium is a professional development/enrichment
experience for early career-stage faculty, starting the 1st, 2nd or 3rd
year of their first academic faculty appointment. The Consortium is an
opportunity for junior faculty to engage with a team of senior faculty
mentors through a variety of interactive exercises and activities designed
to provide guidance and share insights gained over years of experience and
success. The main goal of the Junior Faculty Consortium is to tap the
collective wisdom of some of our most successful seasoned colleagues to
help the upcoming generation set their sails toward successful and
productive career journeys of their own.

Bringing together 11 senior faculty mentors and up to 25 junior colleagues,
the Consortium will be anchored by the classic triad of research, teaching,
and service activities, but will also delve into how to achieve balance
between them, while safely navigating the potentially stormy political
winds that often blow up in academia. Last year’s Consortium introduced
participation by senior MIS faculty who have taken leadership roles in
their institutions and we carry this forward in 2016 with a mentor team
representing a variety of academic career paths, programs, and institutions.

The Consortium is planned to run through the morning and into the afternoon
on the day before conference sessions begin. Participants will embark with
mentors from a variety of institution types and career paths on a series of
activities designed to align experience and guidance with common areas of
interest and challenge for junior faculty as identified in their
application profiles. Activities may include panels, small group
discussions, and interactive exercises that will help participants fathom
the mentors’ insights and perspective, both individually and collectively.

Junior faculty starting the 1st, 2nd or 3rd year of their first academic
appointment in the Fall of 2016 are invited to apply as participants.
Please note that participation in the Consortium requires full regular (not
student) AMCIS registration. Breakfast, lunch and two refreshment breaks
are included in the program and there is a $20 fee for the junior faculty
consortium to help defray meal costs.
