The Department of information science and media studies was established
in 2004 by merging the former Department of information science and
Department of media studies. The staff counts about 70 people, including
30 permanent faculty members and approximately 20 PhD and postdoc
positions. The department offers separate bachelor- and master-programs
in both information science and media. There are also bachelor programs
in Film and TV-production, Journalism and New Media. Furthermore, the
department co-hosts interdisciplinary programs for ICT, Cognitive

there will be a new program in interaction design for digital media.
The research profile of the department is characterized by a strong

interdisciplinary nature. Within information science there are
research-groups on interaction research, semantic and social information
