Dear colleagues in AIS:

Must we include Data Centers as a main core construct to be studied in MIS
research, from their managerial and technical implications? Well, some
current news reveals important insights. For instance:

"Delta Outages Reveal Flawed Disaster Recovery Plans. Delta's recent IT
failures put spotlight on the faulty nature of enterprise disaster
recovery planning. Getting stranded in an airport due to a cancelled
flight is about as pleasurable as going to the dentist to get your teeth
drilled. Unfortunately, travel disruptions due to IT system outages have
become all too common. Earlier this week, an estimated 280 flights were
cancelled and many others delayed due to Delta computer problems."

"The cost of data center downtime has increased significantly for
companies in the last three years, according to results of a recent study
by Ponemon Institute, sponsored by Emerson Network Power. The study of US
data centers quantifies the average cost of an unplanned data center
outage at slightly more than US$7,900 per minute. This is a 41% increase
from the $5,600 it was in 2010, when Emerson and Ponemon first started
downtime cost assessment studies." (source:

So, last high-quality chapters for a co-edited forthcoming book on Data
Centers are welcome! Last deadline is March 15, 2017. Thanks for interest!
