[AISWorld] Promoting our MIS programs

We have the same problem. What we have been doing to address it is to go into BA 1100 (the intro to business course) and tell people what it is about. We have picked the most interesting (to 19 year olds) professor and he tells them that IT is about designing systems and asks for anyone who is creative and would like to design stuff. Then we throw out some examples. I don't know if you have such a class.

I think the most important thing is to get an interesting professor in front of the students. Also, your boy Wade on your website is a negative student. He is and MBA and he is boring and he is bad at explaining what you do.

Also, it looks like you have mediocre teaching in the MIS department. I am just going by ratemyprofessor.com. You need to have someone who is interesting (to 19 year olds) out there teaching them. These kids are picking their majors based on feedback from other kids who are taking your courses. These kids are buying your teachers not MIS per se.

Also things like this help (https://www.goodcall.com/news/new-reports-reveal-class-2016-highest-paying-majors-business-humanities-06848). Among business grads with a bachelor's degree, Management Information Systems is projected to be the highest-paying major.

We also changed the name of the program to IT (not sure if that helped).

Subject: [AISWorld] Promoting our MIS programs

Hi All,
Thanks for reading my message.

The MIS program at my university suffers from two basic issues:

1.       Name recognition

2. Definition - what is MIS

We are developing a plan to address these issues and invite your suggestions and direction.

Name recognition - most of our students have never heard of MIS. Management information systems is not a term introduced to our high school students. Current students indicate before entering the college of business they had never heard of MIS and have no concept of the discipline.

Basic understanding of MIS - to address this issue, we are developing a new slogan describing the MIS program. "The Masterminds of busIness computerS" or technologies. Other slogans ideas? "MIS - where computers mean business"

Masterminds
of busIness
                computerS

or    technologieS

Has anyone tried any advertising? Google Ad words or Facebook, etc.? Effects?

Why major in MIS?

* Only STEM major in the college of business

* Lowest math and science requirement of any STEM major at the University

* Technology will rule the future, so rule technology

*         Great employment outlook

*         High starting salaries

*         High job satisfaction

We are having t-shirts made with the following image - luckily Marshall University starts with M. see the attachment.

Please send any suggestions!!!

Thanks again,
I love computers!!!
