This special issue focuses on the adoption and resistance of emerging
information technologies (e.g., IoT, artificial intelligence, augmented
reality, virtual reality, big data, cloud computing, and FinTech), which
bring disruptive changes to business activities and individual lives.
Specifically, this special issue addresses the following questions:

1. Do the existing theories of technology adoption and/or diffusion explain
the role of emerging disruptive technologies well? If not, how to extend
the existing theories or develop new theoretical perspectives to fill the
gap?

More about the Special Issue

With technology use permeating every part of our life, both personal and at
work, the issues related to its adoption have drawn concerns of all users.
Technology acceptance studies have provided valuable insight and been
consistently published in various outlets (Lee et al. 2013). The topic has
also garnered high citation as evidenced the previous papers. As new
technologies are being introduced, we expect that the adoption and
resistance issues will continue to attract user interest. Although existing
technology acceptance theories are old-fashioned, many researchers still
apply the theories to specific contexts (e.g., developing country,
education, and health care areas). However, these theories may have
limitations in explaining the adoption of emerging disruptive information
technologies (Sun, Y., & Jeyaraj, A. 2013). Thus, if we fill this research
gap, many researchers will have better opportunities to develop the related
topics based on studies included in this special issue.

Dear colleagues,

I?m looking for an external assessment tool to measure whether students
have achieved the program outcomes upon graduation from our Master of
Science in Information Systems program in the Center for Graduate Studies
at Baker College. Currently, we are using home-grown assessment tools
including a number of direct measures and an exit survey. However, these
tools do not provide benchmark comparisons to other programs. If your
program uses any external assessment tool that provides comparisons to
other IS/MIS masters programs, would you like to share its name, whether it
needs to be (or can be) integrated into an LMS, its strengths and
shortcomings? This tool could be in the format of a survey, a test, or
something else. Thank you.

MIT ICIQ 2017
OCTOBER 6 - 7, 2017
http://www.iciq.us/2017/index.html

The MIT International Conference on Information Quality (ICIQ) held
annually since 1995 is the premier conference in the field of information
and data quality. ICIQ attracts researchers and practitioners from around
the globe. In 2017 the conference will be held on the campus of the
University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) on October 6-7, 2017. UALR is
the only university in the United States to offer masters and doctoral
degrees in information quality. The UALR Information Quality Graduate
Program resides in the Donaghey College of Engineering and Information
Technology, which also houses the UALR Institute for Chief Data Officers.

The discipline of Information and Data Quality continues to mature as
organizations recognize information to be among their most important
assets. This is reflected in the growing adoption of governance programs as
a way to assure that information is managed as an asset.

However, an information quality and governance program will not by itself
guarantee success. It requires leadership and ownership by business at the
executive level. In many data-driven enterprises, this leadership, vision,
and strategy reside with the Chief Data Officer (CDO).

For these reasons, the theme of ICIQ 2017 is ?Focus on Value and Strategy?
Value and strategy from data provisioning, data cleansing, data
transformation, and data integration to building an effective data
governance program, and investing in IQ education and training, change
management, DQ metrics, and information privacy and security. The
conference program will feature tracks of research papers,
practice-oriented papers, and panel sessions.

*TRACK:* Knowledge Innovation and Entrepreneurial Systems

*MINITRACK:* Knowledge Management and Information Security Minitrack

The purpose of this Minitrack is to focus on research on the intersection
of knowledge management and organizational or individual security.
Specifically, we have heard and read many times in the last several decades
that the most important asset of an organization is the knowledge of its
employees. While this knowledge can be a target of sophisticated
cyber-attacks or fraud, most likely the leaking of knowledge can happen
because of careless organizational practices, asset misuse, or behavior of
employees. Organizations put in place many technology-based security
measures (firewalls, filtering systems) to guard against attacks, yet it is
not that easy to guard against the human-side of security practices. An
organization can have the best security technology in place, yet a careless
employee talking or emailing or posting on Facebook about the ?new
development? at the company bypasses all this security technology with ease.

Furthermore, one can find lot of information about current projects done by
a company by searching the web. How can an organization effectively protect
its intellectual property remains an unanswered question. What type of
security and intelligence techniques are out that that can protect the
intellectual property? What are the best ways to train employees so that
they would spot potentially criminal activity, such as fraud, among
employees? Could crowdsourcing be used in this case, meaning asking
employees to vote on a particular issue to determine whether it represents
a potential threat? Could implementation of KMS potentially cause legal
problems because some KM artifacts could be uncovered during discovery and
used as evidence against a company?

? This minitrack seeks papers that investigate issues related to
security and protection of intellectual assets and explore how
organizations can use security measures to protect their KM practices.
Possible topics include, but are not limited to:

   - Securing intellectual assets;
   - Filtering messages regarding current business practices on social
   media (e.g., Facebook, LinkedIn)
   - Legal concerns when implementing KMS;
   - Techniques used to scan employee communication channels (e.g., email,
   Facebook, text messages);
   - Security strategies within and outside the company boundaries;
   - Training employees on potential threats to security breaches;
   - Preventative measures to secure KM assets;
   - Knowledge loss risk management;
   - Impact of immigration and cultural issues on potential KM security
   breach;
   - Using KM security to mitigate impacts of retirement and worker
   transience;
   - Measuring risk of knowledge loss due to security breach;
   - Security models and architectures for knowledge systems;
   - Modeling risk in knowledge systems;
   - Tradeoffs in knowledge systems between security and knowledge sharing;
   - Technologies for knowledge system security.

Track Knowledge, Innovation, and Entrepreneurial Systems

Knowledge Innovation and Entrepreneurial Systems recognizes the evolving
nature of work and society to being knowledge based. Competitive pressures
are forcing organizations to do more with less and to leverage all they
know to succeed. Knowledge systems are those systems developed to
facilitate collaboration, knowledge capture, storage, transfer and flow;
knowledge use; as well as to foster creativity and innovation. This track
explores the many factors that influence the development, adoption, use,
and success of knowledge systems. These factors include culture,
measurement, governance and management, storage and communication
technologies, process modeling and development. The track also looks at the
societal drivers for knowledge systems including an aging work force, the
need to distribute knowledge and encourage collaboration in widely
dispersed organizations and societies, and competitive forces requiring
organizations of all types to adapt and change rapidly.

The track invites papers for the following minitracks:

Track: Collaboration Systems and Technologies
Mini-track: Social Media and e-Business Transformation

Social media are online platforms that facilitate global collaboration and
sharing among users. New social media applications in e-business and
e-commerce appear everyday and results in enormous shocks to the ecosystem
of individuals and businesses. Consumers can easily obtain information from
a vast, geographically dispersed group of people in social platforms.
Meanwhile, these social platforms give retailers a wealth of options for
reaching potential customers, communication and collaboration, and creating
values to customers. Furthermore, social media are increasingly being used
in organizations to improve relationships among employees and nurture
collaboration and the sharing culture.

The aim of this minitrack is to provide a forum for the exchange of
research ideas and best practices related to social media in e-business
environments. It also aims to raise awareness in terms of the latest
developments in social media, and address the challenges of using social
media. This minitrack is open to all types of research, conceptual or
empirical. Examples of possible topics of interest include (but are not
limited to):

Topics:

  Summer School: On Computer Simulation Methods

September 25-29, 2017, High Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS)

Organizers: Michael Resch, Viola Schiaffonati, Giuseppe Primiero,
Andreas Kaminski

Call for Applications

Topic

The transformation of science through computer simulation is often
considered to be a methodological one. A lot of literature has been
dedicated to determining the relationship between computer simulation,
experiments or theories as the classical sources of knowledge. This
relation is both methodologically and technically complex. On the one
hand, it is difficult for philosophers, social scientists, and
historians to gain detailed insight into the methods used among
practitioners. On the other hand, for computer scientists and
practitioners in general, the methodological limitations and design
constraints that simulation techniques impose on hypothesis
formulation and testing may not be obvious. The summer school
addresses these problems by offering lectures and tutorials on
computer simulation methods for scholars from the humanities, social
sciences, and computer science.

Schedule

The morning sessions will include lectures by faculty members,
focusing on the philosophical, methodological, and technical aspects
of different simulation techniques (including numerical methods,
software techniques, visualization, agent-based modelling, and
computational experiments). These will be followed by project
presentations by participants. The afternoons will be dedicated to
hands-on tutorials by practitioners. Finally, in the evenings,
distinguished scholars will offer lectures on the most inspiring and
exciting issues in this increasingly important research area.

Instructors (confirmed and requested)

Nicola Angius (Sassari), Petra Gehring (TU Darmstadt), Andreas
Kaminski (Stuttgart), Johannes Lenhard (Bielefeld), Giuseppe Primiero
(London), Michael Resch (Stuttgart), Viola Schiaffonati (Milan),
Angelo Vermeulen (Delft)

Who is it for?

? Researchers (especially but not exclusively postgraduates)
from the humanities and social sciences who are interested in learning
more about the methodological dimensions of computer simulation;

? Computer scientists and practitioners in simulation who are
interested in deepening their knowledge on the foundations, methods,
and implications of their techniques.

Prerequisites for participation?

Technical skills (knowledge of programming languages, simulation
experience) are helpful, but not required. Acquaintance with the
literature in contemporary philosophy of science is useful, but will
not be assumed.

How to apply?

The number of participants is limited to 20. To apply, email kaminski at hlrs.de.

All proposals must be submitted by May 30, 2017 and include:

1.      short curriculum vitae;

2.      description of your research (max. one page);

3. questions or topics you are interested in regarding the summer
school (just a few lines).

Participants will be notified by June 30, 2017.

What are the costs?

There is no fee, but participants will have to cover their travel and
hotel expenses. The organizers will happily help participants organize
their journey and hotel stay.

The DHST/DLMPST Interdivision Commission on the History and Philosophy
of Computing (www.hapoc.org) will offer two bursaries of $250 each to
support travel and accommodation costs of young researchers. To apply
for this funding, please forward your application to

?         Liesbeth de Mol liesbeth.demol at univ-lille3.fr

?         Giuseppe Primiero G.Primiero at mdx.ac.uk

by May 31, 2017. Applicants will be informed of decisions pertaining
to both funding and proposal submission at the same time (June 30,
2017).

*Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences, HICSS-51 2018*

*Minitrack:  The Sharing Economy*

*(Collaboration Systems and Technologies track)*

Sharing is ingrained in the fabric of society and efficient access to goods
and services constitutes a major force driving much of the economic
activity today. With greater connectivity brought about by the
proliferation of internetworking technologies, it has become much easier
for individuals to circumvent spatial and temporal barriers during
interactions, thereby giving rise to a novel Sharing Economy that is
structured around the disintermediation of conventional channels of
commerce in the exchange of both tangible and intangible resources. The
sharing economy has gained notable attention within mainstream media as a
new economic paradigm that leverages peer-to-peer technological platforms
to facilitate exchange of resources among individuals who are joined via
fluid relational networks. Almost overnight, numerous peer-to-peer
platforms?in the likes of crowd-working (e.g., Airbnb, Uber, Amazon
Mechanic Turk, E-Lance, Fiverr), co-innovation (e.g., Mindmixer, Social
Innovator), crowd-funding (e.g., Kickstarter, Indiegogo), crowd-searching
(e.g., Crowdfynd, CrowdSearching), and crowd-voting (e.g., California
Report Card, Threadless) ? have sprung up to facilitate both individuals
and/or organizations to pool resources in resolving problems.

While there are many practitioners who have prophesized the sharing economy
as a game-changer for how organizations and society function, there are
also a number of detractors who questioned the uncertain and potentially
disruptive future that is brought about by such peer-to-peer exchanges.
Critics have painted a dismal picture of the sharing economy as a means for
individuals and/or firms to dodge proper regulations and live beyond their
means, which in turn contributes to doomsday scenarios of massive job
displacements and spending habits detrimental to society. In light of the
opportunities and challenges posed by the sharing economy, there is a clear
urgency for a systematic and thorough scrutiny of how value creation and
appropriation can take place within such economic environments while
minimizing its negative impact to society.

The aim of this mini-track is to sensitize both academics and practitioners
to the latest trends and developments in the sharing economy in order to
determine how value can be created and appropriated within this novel
economic environment powered primarily by technology. This mini-track
embraces both retrospective and progressive views of how the sharing
economy has evolved and would transform with technological advances. We
welcome papers that identify and address knowledge gaps in how emergent
technologies are shaping the access and sharing of resources within online
peer-to-peer communities. Papers that subscribe to inter-disciplinary
perspectives and/or adopt mixed methods are particularly welcome.

Topics of interest of the mini-track include, but are not limited to:
? Collaborative consumption and production in sharing economy
? Crowdfunding and communal investment
? Crowdsourcing and open innovation
? Crowd platform strategies
? Data privacy and security in sharing economy
? Design and innovation of crowd platforms
? Digital business models of sharing economy
? Digital labor markets and workforce management in sharing economy
? Disruptive innovation in sharing economy
? Market mechanics of sharing economy
? Policy formulation for sharing economy
? Reputation and trust in sharing economy
? Social network in sharing economy
? Socio-economic and political challenges of sharing economy
? Value appropriation in sharing economy

Best papers accepted to this mini-track will be fast-tracked to Internet
Research, an international and refereed journal that is indexed and
abstracted in major databases (e.g., SSCI, SCI, ABI/INFORM Global).

DESCRIPTION

In today's competitive and rapidly changing environment of the era of
"Big Data", organizations increasingly want to be able to base their
decisions on the latest set of raw data and the real-time analytics
derived from them. What users demand now are easy-to-use intelligent
platforms and applications capable of analyzing large volumes of
real-time business data to provide insight and actionable information
at the right time. The end goal is to improve the enterprise
performance by better and timelier decision making, enabled by the
availability of up-to-date, high quality information. We are in the
midst of an era where acting fast can make all the difference between
succeeding and failing. Hence, it is natural that there is an
increasing focus on real-time processing in the academia as well as in
industry.

Although there has been progress in this direction and many companies
are introducing products towards meeting this goal, there is still a
long way to go. In particular, the whole lifecycle of operation and
business intelligence (BI) requires innovative techniques and
methodologies capable of dealing with the requirements imposed by
these new generation of BI applications. From the capture of real-time
business and operation data to the transformation and delivery of
actionable information, all the stages of the BI cycle call for new
algorithms and paradigms as the basis of new functionalities including
dynamic integration of event streams and data feeds from operational
sources, evolution of ETL transformations and analytical models, query
processing over stream and historical data, dynamic generation of
adaptive dashboards that support data exploration and infrastructure
that facilitates all of the above, just to name a few

The series of BIRTE workshops, starting in 2006, have always been held
in conjunction with VLDB. The series aims to provide a forum to
discuss topics related to this emerging field and set research
directions towards making business intelligence more real-time.
Following the success of previous BIRTE editions submissions for
research, industrial, position, and demo papers on relevant topics are
encouraged.

TOPICS OF INTEREST

Areas of particular interest for the workshop include (but are not
limited to) the following, as THEY RELATE TO REAL-TIME OPERATION &
BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE:

-	Analytics as a service
-       Analytics engines
-	Big Data systems and applications for high-velocity data
-	Case studies and experience (lessons, pitfalls, guidelines) from
real-time BI practice
-	Challenges from advanced domains, e.g., energy data or sensor data
-	Cloud intelligence
-	Collaborative real-time BI
-	Data capture in real-time
-	Data mining, analytics, and OLAP for real-time decision support
-	Event-driven analytics
-	Integration of prediction models with real-time and historical data
-	Novel architectures and in-memory approaches for real-time analytics
