Faculty of Information Technology is currently seeking to fulfill

2-4 postdoctoral researchers (equivalent to assistant professor) level positions as of 1.7.2017 or as agreed (contract length maximum of four years)

The applicant who has already worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Jyväskylä for four years, can be appointed for the post only for two years.

Postdoctoral researcher are seeked especially for areas:

	• The information systems (IS), postdoctoral researcher (equivalent to assistant professor) 
	• Software business (information systems), postdoctoral researcher (equivalent to assistant professor)
	• Cognitive science, postdoctoral researcher (equivalent to assistant professor)
	• Data Communication ("Information systems"), postdoctoral researcher (equivalent to assistant professor)
	• And generally in all research areas of the faculty

The information systems (IS), postdoctoral researcher (equivalent to assistant professor) 

The information systems (IS) research area includes three research groups, namely Cyber Physical Systems and Services, Information Security Management, and Software Business. Faculty members of the unit have published their research in leading Information Systems journals, such as MIS Quarterly, Journal of Management Information Systems, Journal of the Association for Information Systems, European Journal of Information Systems, and leading journals in service research such as Journal of Service Research. Faculty members hold editorial positions in reputable IS and service research journals. The IS research groups have very strong connections to industry. Data collection opportunities are outstanding. The Faculty of Information Technology aims to be one of the leading research institutions in Finland and Europe in the field of information systems. The profile and the competence of the applicant must be at such a level that it supports the achievement of this goal. The annual intake of information systems students into the bachelors and master’s students is over 230, which is the largest in Finland and one of the largest in Nordic countries and also globally substantial. In addition, we recruit 10-12 doctoral students annually.

The post-holder is expected to conduct high level scientific research published in the best information systems journals, such as MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, JAIS, EJIS and others so called Basket of 6 journals (list by the Association for Information Systems). The post-holder will also be expected to seek external research funding, actively co-operate in terms of research with the other faculty members of the department, to teach and act as a supervisor for Master and Ph.D. students. Software business (information systems), postdoctoral researcher (equivalent to assistant professor)

The profile and competence of the candidate must be at such a level that it supports the above-mentioned goal. The post-holder is expected to conduct high level scientific research published in the best information systems and software engineering journals, such as MIS Quarterly and IEEE Transactions in Software Engineering. The post-holder will focus in research dealing with software startups and lean startups in large established organization in tight collaboration with global Software Startup Research Network. The selected candidate will be expected to contribute actively to the new BizDevOps research laboratory which operates in close collaboration with software companies and startups. A degree in Software Engineering and practical experience in the field is appreciated.

Software Engineering (SE) journals, such as MIS Quarterly, IEEE Transactions in Software Engineering, Journal of the Association for Information Systems and Information & Software Technology. Faculty members hold editorial positions in reputable IS and SE journals.

Cognitive science, postdoctoral researcher (equivalent to assistant professor)

Cognitive science is the interdisciplinary study of mind, experience, thinking and intelligence. In the Faculty of Information Technology in University of Jyväskylä, cognitive science studies problems related to human-technology interaction (HTI). The research aims at solving HTI-related problems utilizing the concepts, theories, and methods of cognitive science. The Master’s program in cognitive science turns the students into experts of multidisciplinary HTI design and design management. The research and the education in cognitive science emphasize deep, multidisciplinary understanding of human beings as the basis of interaction design. There is one full Professor in the discipline as well as two postdoctoral researchers. Education is mainly provided in Finnish but also in English. Research is conducted in active collaboration with industrial partners as well as other societal stakeholders.

The postdoctoral researchers are being recruited in the main research area and in education duties in Master’s education. The postdoctoral researcher is expected to conduct high-level research in cognitive science and to publish research actively in the top quality publication forums in Human Computer Interaction (HCI) and Human Technology Interaction. The position holder will also be expected to seek external research funding, actively co-operate in terms of research with the other discipline and faculty members, as well as to teach in courses related to visual interaction design and act as a supervisor for Master students. Proven competence in mastering questions related to visual interaction design can be seen as an advantage for the applicant.

Data communication and the mathematical information technology, postdoctoral researcher (equivalent to assistant professor) 

The focus of the Mathematical Information Technology (“information technology”) is to examine information technology from the natural sciences perspective. Deep understanding of mathematics, close cooperation with industry, interdisciplinary nature of doctoral education and global co-operation with other universities and research institutes are in the centre of the ethos of the subject.

The main research areas of the mathematical information technology area are computational sciences, software engineering, education and cognitive sciences and cyber security. The number of teaching and research personnel is ca. 90 of which more than half is engaged in research projects, including nine professors and six part-time research professors. About third of the personnel is foreign born. Teaching is conducted both in Finnish and English.

The postdoctoral researchers are being recruited in the main research areas of the mathematical information technology (“information technology”) and in education duties in bachelor’s and master’s education. A postdoctoral researcher is expected to have a suitable doctoral degree, ability to execute research independently and have the required teaching skills.

The subject of Mathematical Information Technology gives education in bachelor’s and master’s level. In master’s level studies it is possible to absorbe in software engineering and data communications, applied mathematics and computational sciences, and educational technology.

Postdoctoral researcher is expected to focus on scientific research, teaching and have active engagement in research projects and seeking research funding.

The duties and qualification requirements and language skills for the position of the Postdoctoral Researcher are stipulated by  the University of Jyvaskyla Regulations and language skills guidelines. According to Finnish law, a non-native university teaching and research staff member can be granted an exemption from the requirement of Finnish language proficiency. Good language skills in English are required. It is an advantage to the candidate to be able to teach in English.

The job-specific salary component of a Postdoctoral Researcher is based on the job demands level 5-6 (EUR 2865,30 €/kk - 3340,77 € / month) according to the salary system concerning teaching and research staff at universities. In addition, a personal performance-based salary component amounting to the maximum of 46.3% of the job-specific salary component is also paid.

A trial period of four months will be used when the position is first filled.
