Dear Colleagues,

We invite submissions for the 27th Workshop on Information Technology and Systems (WITS 2017) to be hosted in Seoul, South Korea at the Imperial Palace.

Call for Papers

Conference Theme: Design Innovations for Human-Computer Symbiosis

“…the main intellectual advances will be made by men and computers working together in intimate association” — J. C. R. Licklider, 1960.

While Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and other autonomic technologies are usually in the spotlight, many important problems are often solved through humans and computers working cooperatively. Thus, the design of information systems has to focus as much on Intelligence Augmentation (IA) as it would on Artificial Intelligence (AI). IA requires a focus on interaction design that optimizes the ability of human analysts to direct the computational process. As such, the designers of information systems have to increase their focus on interactions and interface points such that the execution of computational algorithms can be directed towards more focused and efficient problem-solving paths. Applications of augmented intelligence are beginning to emerge in a number of domains such as cybersecurity, counter-terrorism and space exploration. WITS 2017 invites researchers to present their best work to highlight how they are beginning to seamlessly integrate human and computer intelligence to solve interesting and important business and societal problems.

Note: A limited number of student travel assistance grants are available. Further details on this grants program will be announced on the conference website.

Submission Types

The workshop theme encourages submissions from a broad range of topic areas, please visit the WITS website for details.

Regular Paper
WITS invites research focused on addressing complex business problems or societal issues using current and emerging information technologies. As WITS is a workshop, it encourages submission of papers that report on an early stage of research and that will lead to interesting discussion at the workshop. We solicit papers that utilize any problem-solving paradigm, such as empirical, analytical, behavioral, experimental, or computational. WITS focuses on papers that inform Design of technologies and systems. As such, authors are required to explicitly discuss how their research address important design problems as they relate to Information Technology and Systems.

Demo/Prototype/Poster
Demos, prototypes, and posters showcase implementations of innovative IT artifacts (i.e., constructs, models, methods). They provide opportunities to demonstrate and discuss emerging IT artifacts with researchers and practitioners.

Dissertation Proposal
The applicant must not have completed the dissertation, but must have successfully proposed it, by July 1, 2017. Dissertation proposals should follow the same formatting requirements as regular papers, and should not exceed 10 pages.

Journal Publication Opportunity
Authors of selected workshop papers and research prototypes will be invited to submit complete versions of their research for fast track review or special issues at ACM TMIS and Journal of the AIS. More information is forthcoming shortly.

NOTE: By submitting to WITS, authors are acknowledging that the manuscript (or a closely related manuscript) is currently not under review in another Workshop/Conference. Any manuscript found to be in violation of this policy will be removed from the review process.

Submission instructions including a document template are available at: http://witsconf.org/wits2017_submissions/

Important Dates
Deadline for paper submission: August 22, 2017
Notification of paper acceptance: October 15, 2017

All submissions must be sent in electronic form using the WITS 2017 submission system at:
