students and more than 3,000 faculty and staff that is classified by the
Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a research university
with high research activity. UNLV offers a broad range of respected academic
programs and is on a path to join the top tier of national public research

ABOUT THE COMMUNITY: UNLV is located in the vibrant and growing city of Las
Vegas, a metropolitan area that boasts one of the most connected airports in
the world. Las Vegas hosts over 41 million tourists per year, accommodates
over 22,000 conventions and is home to fifteen of the world's 25 largest
hotels. The Las Vegas Metropolitan area has a population of over 2.1 million
people, yet has a relatively low cost of living compared to other
metropolitan areas of its size. With the addition of the Golden Knights
hockey team, and the planned move of the Raiders NFL team, Las Vegas will
have two professional sports organizations. Referred to as the
"Entertainment Capital of the World" very few cities can compete with the
number, size and quality of conventions, events, concerts and shows that Las
Vegas hosts. With the opening of the Smith Center for Performing Arts, Las
Vegas now offers some of the world's finest Broadway shows and concerts. The
Las Vegas dining culture is world-class, and the city offers a shopping
experience that rivals any top destination in the world.

Faculty members generally live in thriving Las Vegas master-planned
communities known for their beautiful parks, miles of jogging and bike
trails, and more sunshine than almost any other city in the United States.
Las Vegas is near the Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, Mount Charleston, and Red Rock
Canyon National Conservation Area, and within comfortable driving distances
of other metropolitan areas such as Los Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix, and
Salt Lake City. Attractions such as Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon, Lake
Powell, and the Grand Canyon are within easy driving distances as well.
