Dear colleagues,
If you are planning on attending ECIS this year, or even if you are not,
please consider the "Writing to enhance theoretical contribution" workshop
<http://ecis2019.eu/programme/workshops-and-tutorials/writing-to-enhance-theoretical-contribution-1.423599>
that will be held on June 11, 2019. The workshop will be divided into two
parts. The morning session will address language issues in writing
research. Despite the universality of the English language, Wittgenstein
and the linguistic turn has taught us that language plays a critical role
in how propositions, ideas and hence research progresses, and poor language
contributes to poor research, and in turn poor progress of the discipline.
So the morning is dedicated to enhancing that conceptual apparatus that we
use to make sense of IS -- language. The afternoon will address how to use
that language in the context of enhancing theoretical contribution, asking
the right questions, building the IS discourse, working with analogies,
metaphors, paradigms, models and frameworks, all with the goal of inventing
new IS concepts. Attendees are encouraged to bring their papers and
problems with them and to present them in the workshop, where people who
are smarter than I am can help find solutions for you. Participants will
also gain access to a 700-page writing and theorizing online resource that
I've pulled together for the workshop.

A small example of the kinds of analyses that will be covered in the
workshop will hopefully will be made available in a conditionally accepted
ECIS paper "Enhancing theoretical contribution in information systems
research: The case of technology adoption". To register for the workshop,
you'll need to register for ECIS <http://ecis2019.eu/registration> and
check the box to attend a workshop.
