Position Description:
The Management Information Systems Department at the John Chambers College of Business and Economics, West Virginia University, located in Morgantown WV, is seeking qualified applicants for two Assistant or Associate Professor tenure-track or tenured Management Information Systems positions with an emphasis in artificial intelligence (AI) and/or machine learning, beginning on or about August 15, 2020. This search is being conducted in parallel with other personnel investments at West Virginia University in the areas of AI and machine learning, as part of a newly established university-wide AI initiative. The successful candidate is expected to support AI initiatives through the development of relationships with industry partners and other units on campus, with the goal of envisioning and developing AI innovations and disruptive technologies with a potential for commercialization. Through partnerships with organizations such as the Startup WV initiative, WV Forward, and the Chambers College's Vantage Ventures and Encova Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the AI initiative will support and expand the WV innovation economy. This represents an exciting opportunity to work with university and industry partners to develop technologies and partnerships that attract startup companies to WVU's innovation, entrepreneurial and startup ecosystem. The candidate should also be able to apply AI technologies to other university focuses, such as Healthcare, Energy, Advanced Manufacturing, Entrepreneurship, Cybersecurity, Data Analytics, and/or the Internet of Things.
Candidates must have a demonstrated record of excellence in research in the area of AI, machine learning, and/or related fields, with the potential to establish an independent research program, and a commitment to excellence in teaching. Candidates at the Associate level must have a track record of high level research published in well-regarded journals, and a teaching record demonstrating excellence in the classroom. Candidates must have knowledge, skill and interest in developing and teaching both undergraduate and graduate level courses in AI, machine learning, and related fields. Applicants must have a willingness to participate in college and university service activities, and must be fluent in writing and speaking English. Candidates must have successfully completed a PhD by August 15, 2020, in a relevant discipline, such as Management Information Systems, AI, Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Operations Research, Business Administration, or another closely related discipline. Candidates must have a broad-based understanding of AI-based applications in industry, and the ability to stay abreast of trends and market forces. All Qualifications must be met by the time of appointment. 
WVU is the state comprehensive Land Grant University with a main campus enrollment of about 27,000 students. WVU has a Carnegie Classification R1– Highest Research Activity. The Chambers College of Business and Economics was founded in November of 1951, and in 1954 became fully accredited by AACSB International. The College offers a Bachelor of Science in Economics (BSE), and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) with eleven majors: Accounting, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Finance, General Business, Global Supply Chain Management, Hospitality & Tourism, Management, Management Information Systems, Marketing and Organizational Leadership. At the Master's level, Chambers offers a Master of Science in Cybersecurity, Master of Business Administration (MBA), an Online Hybrid MBA, a Master of Science in Industrial Relations, a Master of Science in Business Data Analytics, a Master of Professional Accountancy, a Master of Science in Finance, a Master of Arts in Economics, and a Certificate in Forensic Accounting and Fraud Administration. At the doctoral level, the Chambers College offers a Doctor of Philosophy in Economics and a Doctor of Philosophy in Business Management with majors in Accounting, Finance, Management and Marketing.
