The organizational IT function - studied as organizational IT capability (OITCpk) in modern times, is a key construct to be investigated in top IS research and nowadays strongly linked to business agility construct. However, a critical element of the OITCpk is the IT infrastructure realized through organizational Data Centers - called EDPs in the early eras-. Well, how much research on Data Centers is published in top IS journals? how many research papers on Data Centers? - i.e. the famous basket-? What is the largest investment in organizational IT function? These are in Data Centers. Whereas implementations cost of any IT top technology can be around 20-30 million USD, investments in relevant Data Centers are around 250-500 million USD. However, Data Centers are totally ignored at present in top IS research journals and in most IT curricula. It seems that IT research has lost totally its initial technical dimension. MIS Quarterly published much research on EDPs in the past but now this journal and others have ignored this topic. Finally, all daily work in our work settings is totally supported by Data Centers, such as this e-list. Doing an academic visit to the main Data Center of our University can help us make sense of them. Cheers!
