CALL FOR PAPERS
18th Americas Conference on Information Systems
Seattle, Washington, August 9-12, 2012 (http://amcis2012.aisnet.org/)
Track: Decision Support, Data Management Systems, Knowledge Management, and
Business Intelligence (SIGDSS)
Minitrack: Business Process Optimization & Analytics
================================================================
DESCRIPTION
Business Intelligence (BI) and Business Process Management (BPM) are
influential streams within the IS research discipline. While BI refers to
applications, technologies, and processes for gathering, storing, accessing,
and analyzing data to help business users make better decisions, BPM is
comprised of concepts, methods, and tools dedicated to the identification,
capture, improvement, implementation, and execution of organizational
processes. Both topics have received high attention in practice as well. In
IBMs 2009 Global CIO Study, more than 2,500 chief information officers
worldwide pointed to BI and analytics as the top visionary plan for
enhancing their companies competitiveness. According to Gartner, BPM and
process improvement have been a top priority of CIOs during the last eight
years.
So far, the intersection between BI and BPM has been barely addressed.
However, there is great potential for boundary-spanning research. To name a
few reasons: (1) Managerial issues and process-related decision support play
an increasingly important role in the BPM community, (2) Flexible business
processes will benefit from OLAP capabilities when deciding how to adapt to
contextual changes, (3) There are large amounts of process data from
workflow management systems or process warehouses amenable to analytical
techniques, (4) Various researchers recently expressed the need to
complement the variety of existing qualitative approaches to process
improvement by quantitative approaches.
Note: This minitrack is sponsored by the AIS Special Interest Group on
Process Automation and Management (SIGPAM). We are currently trying to
arrange a fast track setting for outstanding papers. We will keep you
informed.
SUGGESTED TOPICS
This minitrack intends to serve as a platform for research results of and
the exchange between the BI and BPM communities. Beyond classical BPM
topics, the following topics are of interest:
Quantitative approaches to process improvement
Predictive analytics for business processes
Process mining
Process warehousing
Process simulation
Process performance measurement
Business intelligence & workflow management
Business intelligence & process automatization
Business intelligence & process flexibility
Business intelligence & context-aware processes
Value-orientation in BPM
OLAP applications for BPM
BPM and managerial decision making
BPM and on-line decision making
We invite contributions from disciplines including information systems,
information management, computer and management science to properly cover
the facets of business process optimization and analytics. We encourage
papers applying quantitative and qualitative, empirical and theoretical
research methodologies such as case studies, action research, surveys,
experiments, and design science.
