The deadline for applying to the MIS PhD program at the University of
Minnesota
<http://carlsonschool.umn.edu/degrees/phd/areas-concentration/information-and-decision-sciences>
is fast approaching. Please send in your applications by the official
deadline of December 15 to ensure full consideration.

For prospective applicants, we offer the following reasons for doing an MIS
PhD with Minnesota:

1. The department of Information and Decision Sciences (IDSc) is
considered the birthplace of MIS academic programs in the United States and
has been consistently ranked among top five programs in the country. It is
also the home of the premier journal in the field, MIS Quarterly.

2. The department boasts 15 tenure-track faculty with diverse
expertise, strong research records, and cutting edge research programs. The
current faculty include one forthcoming Editor-in-chief (Information
Systems Research, Prof. Alok Gupta) and two senior editors (MIS Quarterly,
Prof Ravi Bapna; Information Systems Research, Gedas Adomavicius) and three
associate editors (Information Systems Research, Prof. De Liu and Prof.
Ravi Bapna; Management Science: Prof. Ching Ren). You can view a
summary of faculty
expertise and their recent publications here
<https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/18792695/shared/IDS%20Faculty%20and%20Research.docx>
.

3. The department provides PhD students strong support and mentorship
through weekly Friday workshops with distinguished external and internal
speakers (current schedule <http://misrc.umn.edu/workshops/>), and an
informal, weekly Brownbag series that covers a variety of research-related
topics such as using big data for research and how to collaborate with
companies. The Management Information Systems Research Center
<http://misrc.umn.edu/seminars/default.aspx> provides research
opportunities for faculty and PhD students.

4. The IDSc department offers a highly successful Master of Science in
Business Analytics
<http://carlsonschool.umn.edu/degrees/master-science-in-business-analytics>
(MSBA) program, an MIS undergraduate program
<http://carlsonschool.umn.edu/degrees/undergraduate/academics/majors-and-minors/management-information-systems>
ranked as one of the top-three programs in the United States, and various
MBA courses. PhD students will be exposed to these curricula via teaching
assistantships and/or instructorships and will be well prepared as they
jump start their own career in business education.

5. The Twin Cities area hosts 17+ Fortune 500 company headquarters
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minneapolis%E2%80%93Saint_Paul>, and the
Carlson School and the IDSc department are closely connected with the local
industry, providing many opportunities for research collaboration with
industry partners.

Our PhD program application deadline is December 15. You can find key
information about our PhD program from the Carlson School’s PhD page (
