Organisation
The department of Innovation Management & Strategy at the Faculty of
Economics and Business, University of Groningen, seeks candidates to fill
one full-time, tenure track position, starting in Fall, 2017. We are
seeking highly motivated candidates who demonstrate excellent research and
teaching abilities and willingness to collaborate with colleagues and PhD
students of the faculty. All applicants should have completed their PhD or
be close to completion, and may be specialized in the field of Change
Management, or Information Systems, or a combination.
The department is part of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB),
which is ranked among the top performers in Europe in terms of research.
FEB belongs to the 1% of business schools worldwide with both EQUIS and
AACSB accreditations. FEB members have published in journals such as the
Administrative Science Quarterly, Academy of Management Journal, Academy of
Management Review, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of
Management, Management Science, Organization Science, MIS Quarterly, and
Strategic Management Journal. Our faculty is actively involved in many
scholarly associations (AOM, EGOS, EURAM, SMS) and also serve in editor and
editorial board roles at leading journals.
Based in Northern Netherlands, the University of Groningen is one of the
oldest and largest in the country and is ranked within the global top 100.
It is a truly global institution with close collaborations with renowned
international universities, including Uppsala, Göttingen, Ghent, Tsinghua

Job description
Responsibilities for this position include conducting and publishing
academic research as well as teaching, along with contributing to the
service mission of the Department. Teaching responsibilities include
courses and thesis supervision at the undergraduate, master, and doctoral
level.
The position is situated in the department of Innovation Management &
Strategy which comprises six Full Professors, eight Associate Professors,
and 20 Assistant Professors in addition to PhD students. We have a diverse
department with more than 40% international staff and 37% female staff
members. The department contributes to programmes at the (honours)
bachelor’s, master’s, research master’s levels and to the PhD programme of
the research school SOM. The department is responsible for three Master of
Science tracks: Change Management, Small Business & Entrepreneurship, and
Strategic Innovation Management. In the near future, a Healthcare
Management & Economics track will be added to the department’s portfolio,
which will be offered in close collaboration with other departments and
faculties. The department covers a variety of interests and backgrounds,
and embraces a number of different research approaches with a keen focus on
academic quality in research and teaching. We focus on applied as well as
fundamental research questions. Areas of research at the department include

Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who would (soon be able to) meet the
following requirements:
1. a PhD in information systems, organization studies, or a closely related
field
2. a demonstrated potential for conducting high quality research and
publishing in top management journals
3. proven interest and ability in developing courses and teaching at the
undergraduate and graduate levels and in mentoring students
4. a relevant international network
5. a team player with good communication skills.
Conditions of employment
The University of Groningen offers a salary depending on qualifications and
work experience. Yearly salary is starting from a minimum of € 41,124
(salary scale 11 Dutch Universities) to a maximum of € 63,960 gross (salary
scale 12) for a full-time position, excluding 8% holiday allowance and 8.3%
end-of-year bonus and participation in a pension scheme for employees. A
fiscal facility pertaining to extraterritorial costs, the 30% facility, may
be applicable if the rules of Dutch tax law permit this.
Tenure track positions at the FEB are temporary positions subject to a
tenure decision at the end. The candidate will be appointed for a period of
six years, on the condition of a positive mid-term evaluation in the third
year of employment. On the basis of a positive final evaluation in the
sixth year of employment, the candidate will be granted tenure and
promotion to Associate Professor. The Tenure Track path can be rounded off
with promotion to Full Professor, under the condition that criteria are
met. Formal Tenure track requirements primarily include criteria with
respect to research prominence, teaching, and service. During the tenure
track period 50% of the position is reserved for research and 50% is
devoted to teaching activities.
