We have a vacancy for one PhD student to develop new tools and techniques to support the modeller in designing the interplay between information and processes. The position is a five year position where teaching commitments account for 30% of employment time.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Information and processes are both important aspects of information systems. Different methods, models and techniques exist to design these systems. However, their focus is on different aspects. As a consequence, analysis techniques are of limited help in the analysis of the interplay between data and processes. This gap in modelling and analysing the interplay between processes and information is the subject of your PhD project. As a PhD candidate, you will:
* study the interplay between information and process concepts and constraints;
* develop methodologies for designing information systems using formal methods such as Petri nets;
* develop tools to support the modelling process of the interplay, using to be developed verification and validation techniques;
* perform empirical studies, aimed at improving the usability of the envisioned approach in real-life applications.
We offer a position for five years, where teaching commitments account for 30% of employment time. You will be involved in supporting the preparation and teaching of Bachelor's and Master's courses, and supervising student theses. We offer the opportunity to take significant steps towards acquiring a basic teaching qualification (BKO), after which you qualify as a teacher in the Dutch higher education system.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for a candidate who meets the following qualifications:
* You hold a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science, or a related discipline.
* You have a strong interest in process modelling and verification.
* You have affinity with formal methods, such as Petri nets.
* You have affinity with the development of software and the use of tools. Candidates are expected to realise research ideas in terms of prototype software.
* You have affinity with teaching.
* You possess good communication skills in English, both in speaking and in writing.
ABOUT THE PHD POSITION
We offer an exciting opportunity to contribute to an ambitious and international research group. You will receive appropriate training, personal supervision, and guidance for both your research and teaching activities. You will work in a group, where people are not only interested in theoretical problems, but they also aim for a high practical relevance.
In addition you will have:
* a full-time position for five years;
* a full-time gross salary that starts at €2,434 and increases to €3,111 per month (scale P of the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities (cao));
* benefits including 8% holiday bonus and 8.3% end-of-year bonus;
* a pension scheme, partially paid parental leave, and flexible employment conditions externe link based on the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities.
In addition to the employment conditions laid down in the cao for Dutch Universities, Utrecht University has a number of its own arrangements. For example, there are agreements on professional development, leave arrangements and sports. We also give you the opportunity to expand your terms of employment yourself via the Employment Conditions Selection Model. This is how we like to encourage you to continue to grow.
