Please find attached advert for UCT Contract Research Post in CITANDA, School of IT
The Centre for Information Technology and National Development in Africa (CITANDA), housed within the Department of Information Systems (IS) in the Faculty of Commerce is seeking to appoint a Junior Research Fellow for a 14-month contract position starting as soon as possible. This position is aimed at emerging academics who have completed postdoctoral training but have not yet had the opportunity to work independently or lead a research project. For more information, please see http://www.citanda.uct.ac.za<http://www.citanda.uct.ac.za>
Reporting to the Principal Investigators (PIs), the post holder will act as a researcher for CITANDA on research projects that seek to mitigate the unintended and negative ethical consequences caused by the introduction of emerging technologies in organizational work by means of empirical and action research. One possible sub-project will be to look at fair work in the gig economy (http://fair.work<http://fair.work>). But wider research around the ethical implications of the 4IR will also be part of your remit. The proposed project is very interdisciplinary in nature, being at the intersection of Information & Communication Technologies (ICTs), ethics, social research, organizational research, labour research and government policy (public administration).
Requirements for the Position:
• Hold a PhD in a relevant degree such as information systems, information technology, computer science, economics, development studies, or related fields.
• Academic or professional experience related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, technological innovation or the digital economy.
• A minimum of 2 years’ and a maximum of 5 years’ relevant post-PhD experience. As the intention is to provide opportunity for researchers who have completed a postdoctoral fellowship but are not yet independent PIs, experience as a postdoctoral fellow is expected. In its absence, a motivation will be considered.
• Proven experience in conducting empirical qualitative research including semi- and unstructured interviews.
• A proven track record in conducting research, managing and initiating research projects and publishing.
• Be able to work independently given broad research parameters and medium-term desired research outcomes.
• Ideally you have a South African resident or work permit.
The remuneration is currently set at R651,323 (taxable) per annum.
Closing date: 19 December 2021
