Dear Colleagues:

I retired in 2019 which was my 50th year on a faculty someplace. I began
to write short essays as a reminder of the mostly good times during the
more than 70 years spent in one educational institution or another as a
student or faculty member.

Writing essays turned out to be a nice, safe pandemic activity so the list
grew over time, and expanded to include OpEd essays and short vignettes
that are semi-autobiographical in nature. This fall I pulled all of the
essays together into a book *Thoughts from Chairman Hank: From a Lifetime
in Education.* The title comes from the three sentences for a total of 11
years I spent as a department chairman at two universities.

>From the back cover:

“This book is an inside look at higher education in U.S. colleges and
universities from the viewpoint of a long-time professor. It dares to
address teaching, research, tenure, promotions and administration. The
book contains a series of essays, opinions and observations including
sketches from the author’s life. Hopefully this little book will provide
both insights and entertainment.”
