How can the BISE community promote tech start-ups tackling grand challenges?

at the virtual 17. Internationale Tagung Wirtschaftsinformatik (WI22).



Despite the pandemic situation, start-ups around the world raised around $329.5 billion last year, including 10.5 billion euros from start-ups in Berlin – more money than ever before.
In the future, especially tech startups are expected to deliver significant contributions to economic and technological growth and development, thus to solving some of the world’s greatest challenges.

Universities play a central role in the startup ecosystem. A recent survey of the German Startups Association among more than 2000 startups and 5000 founders shows that, in 2021, every fourth start-up spun off from a university or research institution, every second start-up cooperates with research institutions, and more than a third of all respondents met their co-founders at university.

The majority of startups appreciates this close relationship with universities. And as startups bring scientific innovation to practice, they are as important for universities as universities are important for startups.

This raises the question of how the Business Information Systems Engineering (BISE) community—in addition to universities’ general effort—can (better) promote tech start-ups tackling grand challenges?

The panel brings together researchers, founders, entrepreneurs, and investors from different backgrounds and institutions to discuss the status quo of how our BISE community does promote tech startups and how we can improve it. The objective is to figure out strategies that create and leverage synergies between the scientific community and startups in the BISE field.

The audience is very welcome to join the discussion, ask questions, and/or share their experiences, perspectives, and ideas.
