Special Issue on "Artificial Intelligence Approach for IoT and Edge Computing Applications"

MDPI Electronics Journal

Dear Colleagues,

The Internet of Things (IoT) has become popular due to its application to a wide variety of scenarios. However, there are still open issues regarding the collection and sharing of information, mainly those related to the complexity of managing a large number of network nodes, such as routing (e.g., multi-hop communication), dependability (e.g., fault tolerance), security and privacy (e.g., lightweight protocols, blockchain), each of which require optimal solutions. Furthermore, due to the resource limitations of IoT devices (i.e., memory, processing power, energy consumption), edge computing (EC) devices can be used in IoT scenarios to overcome their limitations. Specifically, EC devices can use data from IoT devices to perform data processing, storage, and decision-making. In addition, the large number of EC devices in complex scenarios may face new challenges, such as data management (i.e., big data) and availability (e.g., latency). The benefits of artificial intelligence (AI), which apply to areas ranging from so-called shallow methods to deep learning methods, are usually visible in different research fields. AI techniques, in the context of IoT and EC, is a research area concerned with solving resource allocation and management, optimized communication and routing protocols. This Special Issue aims to promote high-quality research into all aspects of designing AI approaches for IoT and EC applications.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

Computational offloading for IoT and EC applications;
DL solutions for resource allocation and management in IoT and EC applications;
AI-enabled communication and routing protocols for IoT and EC applications;
Privacy and reliability solutions for IoT and EC applications;
AI-based security solutions for edge and IoT nodes;
Blockchain solutions for IoT and EC applications;
DL for privacy preservation in IoT and EC applications;
Federated learning for IoT and edge computing;
Edge learning for IoT and Industrial IoT applications;
AI-based real-time protocols for IoT and EC applications.
We look forward to receiving your contributions.
