[AISWorld] Department Chair - Information Technology

Middle Georgia State University (MGA) is seeking a candidate for the position of Department Chair Department of Information Technology. This position is responsible for directing the operations of the Department of Information Technology in the School of Computing - https://www.mga.edu/computing/information-technology/index.php.

Middle Georgia State University was formed through the consolidation of Macon State College and Middle Georgia College in 2012.  Serving over 8,000 students, the University encompasses all five campuses of the prior two institutions with campuses in Cochran, Dublin, Eastman, Macon, and Warner Robins.  Annual tuition and fees make it the most affordable public university in the state of Georgia.  MGA is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.  Middle Georgia State's Bachelor of Science in Information Technology program is accredited by ABET.  MGA is also designed as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education (CAE-CDE) by the National Security Agency.

Responsibilities

Administration -
Complete annual departmental assessment reports
Assists the Dean in the development and maintenance of curriculum and courses representative of the discipline and supportive of the educational objectives of the college.
Assists the Dean in evaluating, recruiting, and recommending the appointment of faculty.
Monitors student success, including student retention and progression data.
Develops semester course schedules.
Produces a variety of reports.
Ensures consistent pedagogy in courses across all campuses.
Ensures all relevant courses are in compliance with USG, SACSCOC, and ABET policies.

Personnel Management -
Ensures all personnel decisions comply USG and MGA faculty and staff policies.
Reviews problems between faculty members or between faculty and students.
Recommends faculty for tenure, promotion, or non-renewal contract status as appropriate.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Assigns mentors to new hire faculty and staff members.
Completes annual evaluation of faculty and staff performance.
Approve faculty and staff work schedules and leave requests within a timely manner

Other Duties -
Teach one 3 credit hour course per semester using face-to-face, hybrid, or online learning formats.
Attends meetings scheduled by the Dean, Provost, or other relevant administrators as a representative of the department.
Participates in strategic planning development and initiatives as needed.
Addresses and resolves student appeals and complaints.
Ensure departmental representatives are available during summer sessions and campus recruitment events.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a doctoral degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.

Required Experience
Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits in the division/department in order to direct and coordinate work within the division/department, usually interpreted to require three to five years of related experience.

Preferred Experience

Experience in curriculum development.
Experience in successfully supporting program/enrollment growth.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge of the field relevant to the assigned department.
Knowledge of assessment and strategic planning strategies.
Knowledge of budget development and management principles.
Knowledge of classroom practices, teaching methodologies, assessment systems, and educational technology.
Skill in the delegation of responsibility and authority.
Skill to make timely decisions.
Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs.
Skill in decision making and problem solving.
Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
Skill in oral and written communication.
