Position as a Research Associate at the Weizenbaum Institute in Berlin: Research Group "Well-being in the Digital World”

Founded in 2017, the Weizenbaum Institute researches the effects of advancing digitalisation on our society. With its recommendations for action, it helps to ensure that the digital transformation is sustainable, self-determined and responsible. The Weizenbaum Institute is supported by a network of seven partners, including Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin, Berlin University of the Arts, the University of Potsdam, the Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems (FOKUS) and the Social Science Research Centre Berlin (WZB). The institute is funded by the BMBF and the state of Berlin. It is based in Berlin.

For our research group "Well-being in the Digital World" at the Weizenbaum Institute e.V., we are looking to hire a Research Associate (in German: Wissenschaftliche:r Mitarbeiter:in) (m/f/d)  starting from 15.12.2024 with 75% of the regular working hours (29.25 hours per week). The position is initially limited until 14.09.2025. Further employment will be sought and is dependent on further funding approval.

The Team

The research group "Well-being in the Digital World" explores the effects of digital technologies (such as social media, AI applications) on users' perception, cognition, emotions, and behavior in both private and organizational contexts. The main focus areas include:

\	The relationship between social media usage and individual well-being.
\	The influence of social media on society and societal perceptions.
\	The implications of social media and smartphone addiction, particularly among vulnerable groups (e.g., children).
\	Developing interventions to counteract negative consequences of digital technology usage (such as negative body image).
\	Understanding the determinants and impacts of online hate.
\	Investigating the mechanisms behind the use of digital technologies (e.g., social media, ChatGPT) and their effects on users' behavior and well-being.

Your tasks:
\	Scientific collaboration in the research group "Well-being in the Digital World"
\	Conducting literature research and evaluations
\	Conceptualization of data collection and research designs
\	Conducting empirical studies (e.g., surveys, interviews) and data analysis
\	Presenting and publishing research results
\	Participating in cross-group activities

Your profile:
\	An above-average scientific degree (Master's, Diploma) in psychology, information systems, business administration, economics, or social sciences
\	Knowledge of empirical methods of quantitative research
\	Very good English language skills
\	Interest in the above-mentioned research areas
\	Enjoyment of scientific and analytical work

Desired:
\	Enjoyment of interdisciplinary work
\	High sense of responsibility and punctuality
\	Independent working style as well as teamwork skills
\	Very good German language skills
\	Willingness to travel for work
