Dear friends,
I am excited to share with you the release of our edited book published by Springer, titled “The Design of Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence for the Workplace”!

This ~500-page, 27-chapter (!) collection brings together dozens of leading scholars and practitioners to explore how we can design AI systems that truly serve people—enhancing, not replacing, human strengths in the workplace.
Key themes include:
✅ Human-AI collaboration
✅ Ethical and Responsible AI design
✅ UX and Organizational adoption of AI
✅ Case studies from diverse industries

We are particularly excited for sharing our own conceptualizations as they relate to:
(a) mapping out solution paradigms of human-centered AI systems according to their primary purpose and the provided intelligence support;
(b) presenting a typology of HCAI solutions characteristics
(c) proposing a Situation Awareness and Decision Execution (SADE) Ladder
(d) developing a process model of a user's decision to delegate (automate) or not a complex task
(e) outlining practical considerations for the design of AI for the workplace, focusing on the importance of organizational readiness and human-centered design processes.

We are also excited by and grateful for the insightful Foreword contributed by Ben Shneiderman<https://www.linkedin.com/feed/#>!

🙏 Huge thanks to all the contributing authors, reviewers, and supporters who made this project possible. I hope it sparks new conversations and directions in the evolving landscape of AI at work!
🙏 Supported by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC)<https://www.linkedin.com/feed/#> and Prompt!
👬👬 Above all, grateful to my fellow editors, Joerg Beringer<https://www.linkedin.com/feed/#>, Pierre-Majorique Léger<https://www.linkedin.com/feed/#>, and Burak Öz<https://www.linkedin.com/feed/#>, for the great collaboration - over the past ~3 years!

If you're working at the intersection of AI, design, and/or user experience in an organizational context—I'd love to hear your thoughts!

My best,
Constantinos
