You are cordially invited to a seminar on ‘Global initiatives on
connecting the unconnected: Myth and reality’ to be held on November 11, 2011 at Örebro University (Hall Nr. HSF, Forumhuset, 10:15 – 13:00).

The theme of this seminar is as follows:

Evidence
consistently suggests that many ICT4D projects are total failures and
one-half are partial failures, leaving little room for success. We are
often blinded from this reality by the blizzard of e-development pilots,
prototypes, plans and possibilities where "would" and "could" replace
"does" and "has". We therefore must have the courage to challenge the
MDGs and to take a broader look at ways in which ICTs can contribute to
socio-economic development. If we do not, we may miss a generational
opportunity to properly harness new technology for the good of all.
Within this perspective, the focus of the seminar is expected to be how
global initiatives on ICT4D are addressing the needs of poor people,
what the challenges and development effects have been evident so far,
and how effectively ICT can be applied in the development agenda.

Confirmed speakers are:

- Rahul De, Hewlett-Packard Chair Professor, Indian Institute of Management Bangalore,
  India

- Maung Sein, Professor of Information Systems, University of Agder, Norway
