The 34th Annual Society for Information Management's (SIM) IT Trends Study was presented at SIM's SIMposium 2013 conference in Boston last week.  There is a wealth of information in the Trends Study about what's going on in IT with budgets, salaries, hiring, investments, cloud, shared services, and performance measurements, as well as what's on the minds of IT leaders and what concerns their organizations.  Six-hundred-and-fifty SIM members from 484 organizations participated in the study. A more in-depth article about the findings will appear in the December issue of MIS Quarterly Executive.

2014 will mark the SIM IT Trends Study's 35th anniversary.  This is the longest-lived study of its kind in our field, predating Gartner, CIO magazine, and all the rest.  It is the only one managed by academics and the only one done in collaboration with the USA's largest professional organizational of senior IT leaders.  We are in the process of compiling as complete a history as possible about the study, which began in the late 1970s as a collaboration between the MISRC at the University of Minnesota and the SIM Executive Board.  If you happen to have copies of any of the old working papers, articles, or questionnaires, or any of the actual data collected over the years, or any stories or anecdotes or related studies from the past, or anything else you think might be of interest in this historical archive, please send them to me @ kapp at unt.edu<mailto:kapp at unt.edu>.  Suggestions regarding new things to include in the 35th anniversary study are also welcomed.
