*Position Description*

A postdoctoral research position is available at the Alberta School of
Business, University of Alberta (Canada). The candidate will work on
projects developing machine learning and optimization models for various
problems in medicine such as building a prediction model for hospital
re-admission. The candidate will have access to large-scale administrative
health data of the province of Alberta. A long-term goal is to build a
novel framework for deriving clinical and policy recommendations from
electronic health records, which will become available through a new
clinical information system Alberta is launching in 2019.

Key responsibilities of the postdoctoral fellow are conducting data-driven
research and working towards publications in high quality journals. Other
responsibilities may also include communicating with collaborators in
clinical or policy positions, co-supervising undergraduate or graduate
students on research, and participating in grant proposal writing.

The initial one-year appointment will begin September 1, 2018
(tentatively), and it may be extended contingent upon research performance
for another year.

*Qualifications*

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in industrial engineering, computer science,
operations research, statistics, or other-related fields before the
appointment begins. Applicants should have experience in coding and
knowledge in machine learning. Strong written and oral communication skills
are a must. Experience with healthcare applications and knowledge of the
health field is not required but will be a plus. A strong technical
background is expected, and successful applicants will also exhibit
leadership or organizational strengths.
